The General Directorate executes decisions adopted by the Board of Directors, provides general coordination of the Institute and supports its economic activities, including management of personnel and operations, as well as preparation and execution of regulatory documents, financial reporting, and ensuring proper employment conditions for the staff. Besides the directorate actively participates in implementation of a number of substantial projects of the Institute. It includes the following divisions:

  • Department of Research and Analytical Work

  • Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations

  • Department of Projects’ Planning and Management

  • Department of Information Technologies, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

  • Organization Department

Main projects supervised by the General Directorate are the following:

  • Publication of the Scientific and Analytical Journal "Information Society" - since 1998
  • Encyclopedia of the information society - since 2008 (predecessor of the Encyclopedia was Russian-English Information Society Glossary, which was created in 2001 and updated until 2007)

The General Directorate in collaboration with its partners organized the following events:

  • Roundtable "Information Society: Myth or Reality for Politicians and Journalists?" (Moscow, Central House of the Journalist, March 31, 1999)
  • Conference "Information Society Technologies'99 - Russia" (Moscow - Novgorod - Saint Petersburg - Yaroslavl, November 22-24, 1999)
