He has a vast experience of drafting conceptual and technical documents and implementing open and corporate information systems for Internet and Intranet.

He participated in the project on creating municipal integrated system of regional socio-oriented information resources and services ("Infocity Moscow" project) as the head of Department of information systems in IIS (since 1999 to the present time). At the pilot stage the project was implemented by IIS, then within the framework of event1.4.1.3 of the city target program "e-Moscow" adopted by the Moscow law of 9 July 2003 N47 "On city target program "e-Moscow" in 2004-2004.

S. Akimov guided development of information system of the Russian Foundation for Humanitary Science Research in 2002-2004 and supervised works on the pilot stage of Internet portal "Infograd" in Moscow, as well as works on creating web-server and e-mail within the project "Mediateka" on the basis of Tolstoy's library CLS N1 of Moscow. He was working on direct implementation of Internet project "Register of Russian Digital Libraries", creation of Internet portal Bridgehead (pilot project), creation of online version of "Information Society" journal. He developed and implemented an information system "Rights Advocate".

Prior to that he worked as developer and administrator of information systems at the Russian stock exchange (Moscow) and in other organizations.

Graduated from the Moscow institute of electronic engineering in 1984, department of micro appliances, specialty - "computer systems"; finished postgraduate studies of the Russian science and research institute of polygraphy, specialty "automation of polygraphic processes and equipment".

In March 2006 Mr. Akimov joined the IIS Board of Directors.
