On October 30, 2013 the Moscow
State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI) hosted the Round
Table on the theme: «Paths of the Information Society Development».
This event was organized by the
base chair of the Institute of the Information Society (IIS) at MESI within the
framework of the International Academic and Research Conference "Values and Interests
of Contemporary Society", which was held on October 14 - November 11, 2013. The
Round Table was attended by teachers and students of MESI.
Tatiana Ershova, IIS Director
General, delivered a key report on "World Summit
on the Information Society (WSIS)+10: Key Forming Trends
in ICT Use for Development".
In her report she emphasized that
the issues of information society development and ICT use for development are
given importance at all levels – national, regional and international. She reported
on the global event, in the course of which in 2003 and 2005 the majority of
countries accepted political statements and determined strategic goals, which
must be achieved by 2015, and main action lines. In 2014 a high-level event
WSIS+10 will take place, where the results of the ten-year work of countries
and international organizations in the field of information society development
will be summed up and the key trends of information society development for the
period after 2015 will be determined.
Yury Hohlov, Chairman of the IIS
Board of Directors and Head of base chair "Information Society Development" at MESI,
delivered a report on "E-Participation: New Concept of People’s Engagement in Public
Administration".
In his report he presented one
of the most recent world tendencies of the information society development – participation
of citizens in decision-making in the sphere of public administration using
ICTs (e-participation). In the last years this trend has been acknowledged as a
priority at national, regional and international levels. In our country the engagement
of citizens in the processes of decision-making by public authorities is one of
the most priority goals of the information society development aimed at increasing
openness and transparency of state authorities work.
Further in the course of the Round Table the interactive
discussion with the audience took place, and within its framework the topical theoretical
and practical issues related to the information society development were
discussed. |
