On October 1, 2012 Yuri Hohlov took part in a
discussion on "Children and Internet in Russia" on invitation of Alexander
Arkhangelskiy, anchorman of TV program "Tem Vremenem" of the "Culture" channel.
Candidate of Psychology Elena Rasskazova, Director of
Kazan lyceum-boarding school after N. Lobachevskiy Pavel Shmakov,
psychotherapist Mark Sandomirskiy, writer Linor Goralik, teacher of the lyceum
“Second school” Ilya Kolmanovskiy also took part in the discussion.
Experts talked about social and psychological problems
of children and teenagers in the Internet, which include uncontrolled use of
the Network, happy slapping (bullying of pals with further uploading of videos
to the internet), changes in psychological attributes of children and youth,
infantilization of teenagers, and many others.
Yuri Hohlov emphasized one of the most important
attributes of information and communication technologies, which includes
internet-technologies,- amplification, i.e. strengthening of existing
phenomena, both positive and negative. According to his words, contemporary
technologies are also accelerators of all processes in the society. Internet
(as a network of data transfer) is neutral, however, it is like a mirror
reflecting real problems of the society, including problems of children’s
interaction between themselves, with parents, teachers and other people.
All speakers agreed that in order to neutralize and
then overcome the negative influence of some internet content it is necessary
to make efforts on development of helpful content and on teaching children and
teenagers to use ICTs for educational and all-round development purposes, as
well as increasing the quality of life. For
parents internet must become a tool of character building, increasing
children’s interest in science and knowledge.
Experts also touched upon problems of inclusion of
aged people in ICTs, as many of them saw its true values for increasing
understanding between generations.
