Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
The fifth Issue of the "Information Society" journal was published

The issue starts with an exclusive interview with Suvi Linden, Special Envoy of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development of the International Telecommunication Union, who served as the Minister of Communications in Finland from 2007 to June 2011. In her interview Ms. Linden shares secrets of successful information society development in Finland, one of which is serious investment in research and developments, first of all in ICT area.

The journal continues publishing the research works by Australian scientist Larry Stillman on technologies of care – those aimed at supporting people in need.

Yuri Ismagilov, Acting Chairman of the Mid-Russian Bank of Sberbank of RF, speaks in his interview about universal electronic card, which includes a lot of things: from electronic wallet and passage ticket to medical insurance policy. He hopes this will become an inherent attribute oà everyday life in the nearest future. Sberbank of Russia is one of the key operators of the project on creation and implementation of the card.

An article by George William Thembo Nyombi, State Minister for Information Technology of the Republic of Uganda, introduces the experience of cooperation in the sphere e-government creation in Africa.

The article by Ruslan Budnik, lead specialist of the UNESCO Department on Copyright and Other Intellectual Property Rights at the Higher School of Economics, discusses the role of standard in passing a piece of work to indefinite range of people for free use by will of the author. This is proposed as an amendment to Russian legislation on intellectual property.

An article on euthanasia is also published in this issue. Its author, a young village teacher from Astrakhan Region Gelfia Alaberdeeva, examining the problem of legalization of euthanasia in the context of “global informatization process”, holds a clear moral and philosophical position, which modulates the whole logics of her discourse.

The journal also contains information on the V International Conference “Earth from Cosmos – the Most Efficient Solutions”, which was taking place between November 29 and December 1, 2011. It is the biggest event in the sphere of distant sounding of Earth in Russia and CIS.

One can also read about the Creative Commons Global Summit 2011, which took place in Warsaw on September 16-18.

Besides this issue includes information on the International conference "Preservation of Digital Information in the Information Society: Problems and Perspectives", which was held in Moscow on October 3-5, 2011, and on the Summit on the Global Agenda of the World Economic Forum, which ran in Abu Dhabi (United Arab emirates) on October 10-11, 2011.
