IIS will act as the organizer of International Conference "Intellectual Property Rights in the Information Society"
Conference "Intellectual Property Rights in the Information Society", which is organized
by the Institute of the Information Society, Institute of Contemporary
Development, Lomonosov Moscow State University and non-commercial organization
Creative Commons and was planned on 17-18 May, 2010 at the premises of the
Institute of Contemporary Development (7, Delegatskaya St.) is postponed until
the autumn 2010.
The purpose of the Conference is to create a platform for discussion of legal, regulatory and socio-economic aspects of the intellectual activity results use and protection of copyrights in the electronic information environment, including:
promotion of open content by the porting of Creative Commons Licenses to the Russian jurisdiction providing to the authors the choice of a flexible range of protections and freedoms
digitalization of cultural heritage and establishment of electronic libraries
regulation of peer-to-peer (P2P) networks activities.
Main objectives of the Conference are:
to raise awareness of decision-makers, as well as representatives of creative, scientific, educational and internet communities on legal and socio-economic aspects of Creative Commons licenses use, development of electronic libraries and regulation of P2P networks activities in Russia
to attract attention of the public and present international experience on use of Creative Commons licenses, development of the electronic libraries and regulation of P2P networks (also the www.creativecommons.ru information portal launch will be announced at the Conference)
to discuss different points of views (pros and cons) on issues of introduction of Creative Commons licenses, development of the electronic libraries and regulation of P2P networks in the context of modernization of the Russian Federation, innovative development of the country and development of the information society
to discuss the legal aspects of porting Creative Commons Licenses suite to the Russian jurisdiction, development of the electronic libraries and regulation of P2P networks.
In the result of the event the proposals and legal recommendations on improvement of legislation regulating protection of intellectual property objects and copyrights will be elaborated to encourage development of open content, creation of people-centered information society and knowledge economy.
Dr. Lawrence Lessig, Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and co-founder of Creative Commons will give a key-note report at the conference. Also the participation of international experts in the field of electronic libraries development and regulation of P2P networks is being worked at.
The following participants are invited to the Conference:
representatives of the Government and federal authorities (Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation etc.)
representatives of the State Duma of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation
lawyers, experts in the field of intellectual property and copyright protection
representatives of business sector (internet-providers, content providers etc.)
representatives of scientific and educational community
representatives of cultural institutions (libraries, museums etc.).
Within the framework of the Conference Plenary session and two thematic sessions will be organized.
Section 1 will be devoted to the legal aspects related to the porting of the Creative Commons license suite to the Russian Federation jurisdiction, legal and socio-economic aspects of the electronic libraries development. Existing barriers on Part IV of Civil Code of the Russian, regulating issues of intellectual properties and copyright protection will be considered and recommendations on their alleviation will be elaborated.
Section 2 will unite representatives of federal authorities, internet-providers, owners of P2P networks, experts in the field of intellectual property and copyright protection, who will be able to present different points of views on activities of P2P networks and work out a optimum common approach to regulation of such networks activities in the conditions of the information society development.
