Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
"InfoDonor" program coordinated by the IIS was presented at Microsoft’s Conference "Day of Non-Commercial Organizations"

Plenary SessionOn March 25, 2010 Russian Branch of Microsoft Corporation held in Moscow the second conference "Day of Non-Commercial Organizations".

Managers and IT-specialists of Russian non-governmental and non-commercial organizations (NGO/NCO) participated in the event.

A number of initiatives supporting the non-commercial sector in Russia, including "Your Course" project aimed at increasing people’s computer literacy; portal of Microsoft resources for NCOs; technological support program for non-commercial sector "infoDonor" were presented at the Conference.    

Leading Microsoft experts reported to representatives of Russian NCOs on charity actions and programs being implemented by Microsoft in Russia and on new opportunities and advantages of software developed by the Company, including those for disabled people. 

Conference was opened by Inessa Grikurova, Corporate Programs Manager, who also moderated Inessa Grikurovaplenary session of the event. She reported on the Microsoft contribution in the development of the information society and described new opportunities of the Company and its cooperation with NCOs. In particular, she outlined key directions and charity projects implemented by the Company, such as technological and information support programs for NCOs ("infoDonor" and "Cybergrants"), promotion of volunteer initiatives of the Company’s staff.

Ekaterina Fedotova, Director of "Your Course: Increasing of Computer Literacy" Program (PH International) presented key objectives and mechanisms of a new educational initiative aimed at training people of modern computer technologies use. By this time 88 organizations joined the project, which had started in the end of January 2010. During the year it is planned to open 100 training centers in different regions of the Russian Federation and to raise computer literacy and improve skills in using a computer of approximately 1 million people free of charge. 

Program of technological support of non-commercial and non-governmental organizations "infoDonor", launched during the last "Day of NCOs", was represented from perspectives of its 3 participants: Microsoft Corporation (copyright holder of software, which provides significant discounts to NCOs and preferential terms for purchase of licensed software), Institute of the Information Society (Russian program operator) and "Focus-Media" Fund (non-commercial organization, which uses the program).

Julia Sarviro, Manager of Microsoft social projects in Russia, reported on the mission, main goals and implementation of "infoDonor" program, thanks to which Russian NCOs can get access to the latest software products of Russian and international producers at minimum costs.   

Louisa RizmanovaLouisa Rizmanova, Head of Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations at IIS, reported on current activities within the framework of  "infoDonor" program, on conditions of participation of NCOs/NGOs in the program (including determination of NCOs’ eligibility), showed participants of the event how to operate the program’s web-site (www.infodonor.ru), the registration procedure, conditions of products’ ordering and delivery.

Within the framework of the event new Microsoft products and technologies providing for increasing efficiency of companies’ operations were presented: MS Office 2010, Internet Explorer 8, MS Project Professional and Project Server 2010, MultiPoint Server 2010, Windows Live, MS Security Essentials, "United Communications" platform integrating communication streams and use of different means of communications into unified process.

During the Conference "Day of Non-Commercial Organizations" an online-broadcast was on by means of Microsoft program Office Live Meeting, its record will be posted on Microsoft web-site.
