Dmitry Medvedev held a joint session of the State Council and the Council for the Development of the Information Society
Electronic provision of all
state services must be ensured by 2015, in accordance with the Information
Society Development Strategy, the President said in his opening remarks at the
meeting.
Mr Medvedev outlined the key
tasks that must be resolved in the immediate future. They include setting
common policy for electronic provision of services for all agencies and
regions; developing the legal and regulatory framework in this area; reducing
the digital gap between the different regions; and training qualified IT
personnel for public sector and government institutions.
The President said that
efforts should focus particularly on getting medical, social and other public
sector institutions connected to the internet, noting that all of the country’s
schools have already been connected.
Mr Medvedev gave instructions
to the regional authorities and proposed that the extent of information
technology use be applied as one of the indicators for measuring the
effectiveness of their work.
