During the Third Internet Governance Forum Editor-in-Chief Tatiana Ershova and Chairman of the Editorial Board
Yuri Hohlov talked with Robert Kahn, an Internet pioneer, who is referred to as on of the "fathers of the Internet", on the issues, which can be of
great interest for the Information Society magazine audience and all
those involved in the information society development agenda:
Q1: What is your view on multilingual domain names - is it there a tradeoff between expanding the number of internauts and the loss of a lingua franca.
Q2: What is your view on widely discussed possible transfer of Internet governance from ICANN to an international body/organization under the UN?
Q3: How can we preserve the operational pragmatism and efficiency of the current governance system based on ICANN while creating a global and, as some people put it, more legitimate legal framework within which governance can take place?
Q4: What is your opinion concerning the possible establishment of a global legislative framework to fight against the "dark side" of the Internet (e.g. spam, child pornography, cyber crime and terrorism)? What kind of mechanisms, instruments and technologies are needed to make the Internet safer and cleaner?
Q5: How will the Digital Objects Identifiers system you have invented and are promoting help solve some of the problems touched upon above?
Q6: What is the Internet? How do you define it now?
The answers to the questions of this interview will be published in the Russian language in Issue 3-4 (2008) of the Information Society magazine, which is going to be published by the end of December, 2008. |
