Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
IIS top reps participate in the opening events and a workshop of the 3rd Internet Governance Forum (Hyderabad, India)

The Third IGF meeting is taking place in Hyderabad, India on 3-6 December 2008. The meeting is open to all World Summit on the information Society (WSIS) accredited entities, as well as other institutions and persons with proven expertise and experience in matters related to Internet governance.

Following broad-based consultations through the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), the agenda for the meeting of the IGF includes the following key issues:

  • Reaching the next billion
  • Promoting cyber-security and trust
  • Managing critical Internet resources
  • Taking stock and the way forward
  • Emerging issues - the Internet of tomorrow  
The overall theme of the meeting is "Internet for All'. This theme complements that of the 2008 World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, 'connecting people with disabilities'. The theme underscores the importance of ensuring that we include the world's 650 million people with disabilities as we move towards giving internet access to the next billion people.

The IGF 2008 meeting hosts are the DEpartment of the Information Technology of the Government of India and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI).

The Opening Session of the meeting was chaired by Mr. A. Raja, Minister of Communications & Information Technology of India. The session speakers were Mr. Jainder Singh, Secretary, Department of Information Technology, India; Mr. Subramaniam Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), and Chairman, ICC/BASIS; Ms. Lynn St. Amour, CEO, Internet Society (ISOC); Ms. Alice Munyua, Coordinator, Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet), and Director, Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK); Mr. Abdul Waheed Khan, Assistant Director General, United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Ms. Meredith Attwell Baker, Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and National Telecommunications and Information Administration Administrator, Unites States of America; Mr. Paul Twomey, CEO and President, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); Ms. Graciela Selaimen, Executive Coordinator, Núcleo de Pesquisas, Estudos e Formação da Rits (Nupef/Rits); Mr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General, International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Chairman of IIS Board of Directors Yuri Hohlov, IIS General Director Tatiana Ershova and member of IIS Board of Directors Mikhail Yakushev were present at the session.
