Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
IIS representatives take part in TechSoup Global Network Partner Meeting (Johannesburg, South Africa)

TechSoup Global provides knowledge and resources to nonprofit and social benefit organizations around the globe. They help them choose, implement, and sustain the essential technology needed to serve their communities. They also forge partnerships between unlikely allies to address the unmet technology needs of these organizations. And over the past two decades, we have built a deep understanding of how to deploy essential technologies in environments short on staff and starved for capital.

TechSoup Global’s services touch more than 400,000 individuals worldwide, who are dedicated to improving their communities and represent nonprofits and social benefit organizations of all sizes and missions. The TechSoup Global community reaches individuals in many countries. They collaborate with 35 major technology providers such as Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco Systems, Symantec, and Intuit to offer essential product donations to social benefit organizations worldwide. TechSoup Global's unparalleled one-stop technology product donation service provides individual organizations with solutions that best serve their missions.

TechSoup Global convenes partners from diverse sectors to transform pioneering ideas into sustainable programs with long-term impact.

Year 2008 has shown:

  • Expansion of the TechSoup Global Network which now serves more than 19 countries. In its first year of operation, the network generated US$18.5 million in savings for recipients across the world
  • Extending the reach of the NetSquared Initiative, which helps social innovators use Web based tools to support their work. The 3rd annual conference was highlighted by the community-driven NetSquared Challenge Award, which to date has awarded US$220,000 in direct financial support
  • Successful implementation of the MaintainIT program, a multi-million dollar three-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which supports public access computers in libraries. This work emphasizes the integration of the library community and is innovative in its use of technology and community management to establish materials, training, and resources that can be useful beyond the terms of the grant
  • Expanded the Refurbished Computer Initiative along with our partner Redemtech, providing corporations with a socially, environmental, and fiscally responsible solution for disposing of older computers and offering nonprofits a reliable source of PCs at the lowest possible cost.
Russia has joined the TechSoup Global program in summer 2008 while preparing the launch of the infoDonor program  in mid February 2009. The program is delivered in Russia by the Institute of the Information Society (IIS) in partnership with TechSoup. This year’s second TechSoup Global Network Partner Meeting took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on October 16-17, 2008. Representatives of 10 countries - Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Russian Federation, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States - attended the gathering. The meeting was hosted by SANGONeT, the TechSoup Global program partner in South Africa. IIS was represented by Tatiana Ershova, General Director, and Alexandra Kapustina, Program Manager.

The meeting participants exchanged experience in program implementation in their countries at different stages. The group discussion topics included Challenges in Developing Countries, Capacity Building / Value Add Services, and Marketing.
