Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
Microsoft and IIS expand cooperation with Russian non-commercial organizations

On 10th of June, 2008, Microsoft announced new program aimed to support non-commercial organizations (Microsoft Software Donation Program) by providing them with most up-to-date software. Microsoft will partner with the Institute of the Information Society within the framework of the new infoDonor program in Russia.

Cooperation with non-commercial organizations is an essential part of Microsoft international business. For several years, Microsoft grants non-profit organizations’ projects aimed to provide access to innovative information technologies for underprivileged communities as a part of the global Unlimited Potential program. The company does its best to make this cooperation broad-based and complex. Microsoft Software Donation Program is one of the most important and relevant cooperation parts among Russian non-commercial organizations.

"This planned launch represents one of many in the expansion of the Microsoft Software Donation program worldwide through the TechSoup Global platform, - said Pamela Passman, Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Microsoft’s Global Corporate Affairs function. - To date, 17 countries WW including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Poland, South Africa, Australia and others have also launched locally-managed software donation programs that make more than 40 of the latest Microsoft titles available broadly and affordably to eligible NGOs, especially small organizations that would otherwise be unable to purchase Microsoft products."

International organization TechSoup chose Institute of the Information Society as a partner in Microsoft Software Donations program in Russia. TechSoup and IIS together localize service platform for Russian non-commercial organizations and supply them with software licenses. They are creating an information resource for non-commercial organizations which will be available not later than 7th of July, 2008, and should become a simple and accessible mechanism of obtaining the cutting edge technologies.

"It’s a pleasure for our Institute to collaborate with Microsoft Corporation and the TechSoup, which has been providing charity organizations with IT-support for 21 years already, - said Tatiana Ershova, IIS General Director. - The progress of Information Society is impossible without access to innovative technologies. Therefore, the goals of the program are fully in line with the goals and mission of our Institute".
