On February 21, 2008 the first session of the consultative group on Internet Governance formed by the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of RF took place. The main topics of discussion were:

• examination of the group organization
• discussion of substantial aspects in the activity of the group
• preparation to the next Internet Governance Forum (New Delhi, India, 8-11 December 2008).

Acting director of the Information Society Strategy Department at the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of RF Vladimir Vasiliev made his opening remarks.

During the discussion it was proposed to concentrate the group’s efforts on the following main trends:

• freedom of the Internet development
• infrastructure development       
• legislation development
• cooperation between the state, business and civil society
• development of and broad access to content and services
• public support of the internet development.

Members of the IIS Board of Directors Tatiana Ershova and Michael Yakushev took part in this meeting of the consultative group.
