Results of the open competition on R&D within the E-Moscow city target program on “Development of Integrated Information System of Moscow Culture and Moscow Culture Gateway (first release)” were announced in December 2006. The works were ordered by Moscow Committee on Culture. The winner is a consortium comprising the following organizations:

• Institute of the Information Society (chief executor)
• Federal state unitary enterprise "Center PIC"
• Alt-Soft OJSC
• K-Technologies Ltd.
• Inform-Sistema CJSC
• BAC CJSC
• Center on Cooperation with Governmental Contractors "Parus" (CJSC)

The aim of the integrated information system of Moscow Culture and Moscow Culture Gateway is to develop an environment for wide access to the works of domestic and world culture and arts for all social layers, for free creativity, spiritual and cultural development of people, sharing with the new generation the overall diversity of the Russian culture, development of economy and administration of the sphere of culture; providing Moscow citizens with equal possibilities to access information in the sphere of culture, development of information content for culture tourism development, and representation of Moscow culture before the international community.

This is a complex integrated system comprising a number of application and support subsystems.

The scope of 1st-line works on the system included development of:

• subsystem of public libraries of Moscow (equipment and special software delivered to 23 libraries)
• subsystem of Moscow museums (equipment and special software delivered to 12 Moscow museums)
• subsystem of administrative authorities in the sphere of culture
• subsystem of information gateway "Moscow Culture"

The first line of works established environment favorable for implementing an integrated information space in the sphere of culture in Moscow. Full-scale subsystems interaction among each other and with external information systems will be carried out on later stages of the Integrated system implementation in Moscow.
