Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
IIS representative participated in public discussion of the draft Strategy of the Information Society development in Russia held in Rostov-on-Don

On 6 July 2006  Rostov-on-Don held public discussion of the Strategy of the Information Society development in Russia chaired by A. Pochinok, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of RF in Southern Federal District.

The discussion was attended by delegations from 11 subjects of the Russian Federation that are part of the Southern Federal District.

V. Sherstiuk, Assistant Secretary of the Security Council of the RF, made a report on the draft Strategy of Russia's Transition to the Information Society. He outlined main provisions of the draft Strategy and stressed that as a result of implementing the events covered by the Strategy Russia will be able to achieve certain target indicators characterizing its progress in post-industrial development. The Strategy should be used while drafting conceptual, doctrinal and program documents concerning strategic issues of using ICT potential to achieve economic, socio-political and spiritual development of the Russian society.

Among active participants to the discussion there were O. Byakhov, Head of Department of the Russian Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications; V. Pchelenoy, Senior Specialist of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science; G. Namsinov, Head of Department of Information Resources of Republic of Kalmykia; F. Barmin, Chairman of the Committee of Stavropol Krai (Territory) on Press, Communications and Informatization; A. Belokon, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of the Russian State University; I. Baev, Head of Geopolitics Section of the Southern Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Yu. Hohlov, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Information Society. Yu. Hohlov made a report on  E-Readiness in Russia and Its Regions (in Russian).

The participants to the discussion expressed opinions and recommendations related to both content of the draft Strategy and its implementation. After the public discussion the participants adopted a resolution supporting the project.
