Strategy for Information Society Development in Russia
IIS representative participated in All-Russian annual research and practical conference "Internet and E-Region" held in Samara on 30 June 2006

On 30 June 2006 Samara held the first meeting of the Coordinating Council on ICT Development under Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of RF in Privolzhsky Federal District (PDF). The meeting was followed by public discussion on the draft Strategy of Russia's Transition to the Information Society. The events were chaired by G. Matiushkin, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF President in PFD.

The Coordinating Council and public discussion were attended by delegations from 12 subjects of the Russian Federation that are part of Privolzhsky Federal District.

Vladislav Sherstiuk, Assistant Secretary of the Security Council of the RF, made a report on the draft Strategy of Russia's Transition to the Information Society. He outlined main provisions of the draft Strategy. Among active participants to the discussion there were Oleg Byakhov, Head of Department of the Russian Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications; Yuri Hohlov, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Information Society; Valery Fomichev, Chairman of the Government of Samara Region, Head of Working Group on E-Government in Samara Region; and Alexei Kovyev, Head of Administration Office of Perm Region. Yuri Hohlov made a report "E-Readiness in Russia and its Regions" (in Russian).

The meeting participants expressed joint opinion on the necessity to adopt the Strategy of Russia's Transition to the Information Society and the importance that subjects of the Russian Federation extensively participate in drafting the plan of its implementation. They also expressed comments and recommendations concerning both the content of the draft Strategy and organization of its implementation.

The discussion resulted in adoption of the resolution supporting the draft Strategy of Russia's Transition to the Information Society. The discussion participants recommended to introduce the expressed comments and submit the draft to the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
