English-Russian Glossary on Information Society
Data: registered facts.
Information: there is no universal definition of this concept.
Sometimes it is used as a synonym to data or knowledge. If we consider
the verb “to inform”, i.e. to convey something new, the specificity
becomes clearer. To get information means to get an answer to a
question. A message can become information without a question if
this message changes the user’s picture of the world.
Knowledge: result of human cognitive activity.
