Living & Working in the Information Society

Information Society Technologies (IST) 98 Russia takes place from 30 November to 2 December in Moscow. It will run in parallel with the IST 98 Conference in Vienna and will cover the Esprit, ACTS, Telematics and Info2000 programmes of the European Commission.

The Congress is jointly organised by the European Commission and the Government of Russian Federation, the State Duma of Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Science and Technology, the Russian State Committee of Telecommunications and Informatization, the Russian Ministry of Education, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Foundation for Technological Development.

The motto of the event will be: "Living & Working in the Information Society". Besides keynote speeches and political statements, future developments in essential areas of the Information Society will be covered. Topics will include: Communicating, Electronic Commerce, Legislation, Governance, Creating, SME, Regional Initiatives, Privacy and Security, and many more.

The outline programme of the Congress includes an Investment Forum and a range of Russian-themed events together with the launch of the IST Programme of the European Commission' Fifth Framework Programme which is open for Russia's participation.

The Congress will be broadcasted to all Global360 sites in Europe and Canada as well as to the Russian active sites in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Novosibirsk and other. In addition it will be a one way broadcast to MBONE part of the Internet, so that anyone in the world can follow the programme if they have an MBONE connection.

The Exhibition, open throughout IST 98 and IST 98 Russia, will include:

presentations of leading-edge technologies and products, plus demonstrations of the outcome and potential of take-up, demonstration and technology transfer actions;
a cluster of info2000/MLIS projects;
a series of European showpoints.

IST 98 is the first of a series of annual, comprehensive events covering the IST Programme of the European Commission's Fifth Framework Programme. IST 99 will take place from 22-24 November 1999 in Helsinki, Finland.
